My happy moments

A few days ago I was sitting in my favourite cafe in Byron, slowly drinking a large cappuccino and reading one of my favourite books “Naive.Super” by Erlend Loe. The sun was shining, the cafe was full of locals and tourists, all with smiley happy faces just having a good time. It felt good. I was happy. My life was complete. Happy people around you, a hot cup of coffee, sunshine and a good book – I just wanted to hang on to this moment forever.

my happy moments

I started writing things on a napkin that would usually make me happy, and it was quite a long list covering pretty much everything I did. That has made me to realise this: I am a happy person. Almost everything I do, well except a few things, of course, I enjoy. Or I am just lucky enough to not be doing what I don’t like?

So, I want to share a few things with you that really make me happy, and that I enjoy doing on a daily basis. My little happy moments.

  1. I like cooking at home. I don’t know how or why this has happened, but I don’t enjoy going to the restaurants anymore. I like the process of thinking about what I’d like to eat today, then go to the shops, buy everything fresh and then cook it, sometimes with a glass of wine and good company. Then have dinner outdoors while listening to the ocean..
  2. I like spending time outdoors. If I could choose I would spend most of my free time walking, running, climbing, swimming or just doing nothing but outdoors. Maybe later. For now I just enjoy every minute of it.
  3. I love my morning coffee. I have been doing this for a few years now. I wake up every morning and make myself a cup of nice hot cup of freshly grounded coffee. This brings so much positive energy into my day, that I cherish every moment of it.
  4. I love the “Don’t waste” idea. I have no idea why, but I don’t like shopping anymore. This happened to me a few years ago. I think I just did too much of it at some stage. I also care about the planet. I really do. We buy so many things we don’t need, don’t use, or sometimes don’t even remember that we have bought them. That scares me. When I was packing my things I got really tired of wrapping my tea and coffee cups, so I decided to count how many cups I own, well – 39! For two people and a cat. Add wine, beer, water glasses, and the number is so huge it’s not funny. And I use one cup. We just buy things for fun, and eventually our house is full of unwanted things we don’t use. These things take over the house. Take over the space.

Not anymore!

I like doing other things as well, like playing with my cat, when she allows me; spend time in our little garden; listen to music and sometimes even watch a movie. Occasionally we go out or travel somewhere we haven’t been yet. And that leaves work. The rest of my day I spend working. It’s not that exciting, but I like what I am doing.

I am a happy person :)
